Still Alive

WriterGirl (who I've upped to Super Hero status) (whose secret identity is Heather, but shhh don't tell it's a sekkrit) (who is also one of my early beta readers) (who you should totally be following, if you're not already) (who is also awesome) (and who is totally worthy of all of these parenthetical asides) ... ANYWAY, Heather recently pointed out to me that a song, "Still Alive" by Lisa Mistovsky, reminded her of the main characters of my book.

AND ZOMG SHE IS SO RIGHT.

I listend to it on You Tube, then looked up the lyrics, then downloaded it from iTunes IMMEDIATELY. Even the video, with the breaking glass montage, really reminds me of my main character Amy.

This is the New Official (Awesome) Theme Song of my Writing.

So, do you have an Official (Awesome) Theme Song of YOUR Writing?

Great song and definitely sounds like Amy's life. I can see her humming that song and Elder listening and wondering about music.

I don't have a song for mine, but I think I'll keep my ears tuned. :)

Good going Heather!

Do theme songs count? Seriously, when writing my current PiQ (project in query) I listend solely to XM 81 - dance! Woo-hoo! Of course, parts of many chapters took place in a video bar so I needed to insert song titles here and there. I do have a specific song for one character as he's dealing with the repercussions of violence. The lyrics to the song - the pulse, the beat - should fit so well. I even inserted the lyrics into the chapter. I'll do what I must to get appropriate permissions when the time comes.

Music normally plays a part in my writing.

Thanks for song, never heard of her before, but plan on Napstering her this evening.

Thats so cool! And so neat that she found it for you! I don't have an official theme song, but I do have a playlist (which I only listen to when I'm not writing-haha).

The "theme song" for my WIP is Therapy by Finger Eleven.

There is no video for it, but you can listen to it here.

Robyn--I will keep my ears out for Anna and Claire...something country and rocking...maybe a little old school...

Scott--Isn't it amazing the influence music has on writing? I've noticed that music helps me gear up to writing, and when I'm writing so hard that I can't hear the music, that's when I've hit the golden spot. But I love incorporating music into my writing itself. I have one book under the bed that was inspired solely by an old lullaby my father used to sing to me...

Frankie--I have a playlist that I listen to while writing--the same 20 or so songs over and over. Like I told Scott, I usually get to the point where I don't hear it any more...but I need it to get to that point in the first place.

Casey--LOVE Finger Eleven! Great song!!!

Shelli--Thanks!

Great song! I love building a little "soundtrack" for my book to write by. :)

That's exciting, Beth! I'm trying to think if my characters would have good theme songs, but nothing comes to mind at the moment. Maybe "With or without u" by U2, since they're all so hard to live with!

I usually write to soundtracks, and my favorites are the soundtracks to "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Cats". They both have energetic songs that make my fingers dance over the keyboard and sad ones that are perfect for the protagonists' losses.

Man, I wish I did. I have a few songs that remind me of characters or feelings, but no one theme song. But now I'm on the lookout for said song.

Nice song! I wonder what would be the theme song to my new WIP. Must find a song... (thinking thinking :) maybe when I'm further along in the novel, it will come to me.

What a great theme song! I haven't discovered a theme song for my WIP yet but the writing goes better when I'm listening to Meditation Music of Ancient Egypt. It's weird, you'd think it would put me to sleep.

She is a superhero, isn't she!

I don't have a theme song, but man, I need to get one!
Phantom of the Opera?

Oh wow, now I'm embarrassed to show my face here. You are way too nice to me Beth.

I'm so glad you liked the song. And I had never seen the music video before, I love it. I do have a perfect theme song for my novel. My jaw dropped when I first heard in on the radio last year - What' I've Done by Linkin Park. It's famous and that's the sad part (because I love finding things no one knows about. Like your song). But it fits so perfectly, there is no way it couldn't be my theme song.
